In the world today we have all sorts of information right at our fingertips. We can see different work outs, special diets, and all the tips and tricks to help us achieve the health we want. If you’re reading this now, chances are this isn’t the first time you have read something for your health.
But now answer this question? Did you actually follow instruction? Did you go through with that workout, or diet plan? Did you stick with it?
If you are like me and the vast majority of people out there, you may have started and soon as you slipped up, you said “f**k it”, and just continued the regular lifestyle you had been living.
If you want results, you have to do the work. No matter what any ad tells you, you absolutely will NOT achieve your goal without working on it.
I’m going to go over a few simple tips to help you get out of this vicious cycle. Following these tips will not only help you with your health and fitness, but any area of your life you would like to work on.
Tip 1: As much as you may want to, don’t go from 0-100 when you haven’t practiced driving. If you haven’t been practicing a healthy lifestyle, then taking on an extreme diet or high intensity workout is just going to cause you to crash and burn, causing you to go right back into your unhealthy old ways. Start off small and try to find things you enjoy. Instead of changing up your whole diet instantly, just start by cutting out the cokes. Can’t completely cut out cookies? Try to be aware of how many you’re eating, so instead of mindlessly eating a whole row of Oreo’s, try cutting it down to 2 or 3. Instead of hitting the treadmill and sprinting, just start taking walks around your neighborhood.
Tip 2: Do it. I love Nike’s slogan “Just Do It” because it’s a simple rule to live by that can make life so much more. We allow ourselves to make too many excuses to get out of things. Starting a diet or going to the gym is literally that simple. “I wanna diet, but I can’t eat like that” or “I don’t have time to go to the gym” are bullshit excuses. There have been plenty of people that started from the bottom and worked around almost any obstacle you can think of. Quit with the excuses and literally, just do it. You need to go on a walk? Then go, don’t hesitate and think of reasons why you shouldn’t, just get up and go. Get out of your head and start taking more action. Just sitting back and thinking about what you should be doing hasn’t gotten anybody anywhere. When you need to do something you just do it. Plain and simple, don’t complicate it because it really does not have to be that difficult. Just do it.
Tip 3: Keep it consistent. If you want to create a good habit, you have to be consistent. When trying to start a new diet, people always give themselves those cheat days. While cheat days can be fine for people that stick to their diets, most of us tend to turn cheat days into cheat weeks and months. No cheat days. All day everyday you stick to your plan. Need to wake up earlier to have time for the gym? Wake up at the same time every day. Yes, even on the weekends. You will be surprised at how easy waking up early becomes when you start to do it on the weekends too. The more consistent and strict you are with whatever new habits you’re trying to form, the quicker those things become natural and easy for you, which makes the rest of your journey a whole lot more simple.
Follow these basic steps and do not make excuses for yourself. All it takes is for you to actually do it, that’s it. It really is that simple. So quit adding all the extra nonsense and keep it simple and stick to it. We can be our own worst enemy when we allow ourselves to get in the way of what we want to achieve. Instead of going against yourself, try joining your own team and push yourself to new limits.
